ICIES News- At the 4th International Conference on Islamic Economics Studies (ICIES) 2024, researchers from the State Islamic University of K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid, Pekalongan, presented their significant findings on the pressing issue of urban air pollution. The study, titled “Impact Of Air Pollution In Urban Areas: A Study On The Pantura Road In Pekalongan City,” was presented by Shinta Dewi Rismawati and Silma Rohmah.

The research focuses on the urgent environmental problem of air pollution in Pekalongan City, particularly along the busy Pantura Road. This area faces significant air quality challenges due to industrial activities, transportation, and rapid urbanization. The study aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of air pollution and identify the primary sources that require targeted intervention.

Using a qualitative research approach, the study collected data through in-depth interviews with relevant informants, including textile producers and truck drivers. Key findings from the research include:

  • Motorized vehicles and the textile industry are identified as the main contributors to air pollution in Pekalongan City.
  • Sustainable solutions proposed include the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies, stricter enforcement of government regulations related to vehicle emissions and industry standards, and increased public awareness through education and active participation in maintaining air and environmental quality.

The presentation underscored the importance of implementing these sustainable solutions to mitigate the adverse effects of air pollution. The researchers emphasized that the findings could contribute to formulating more effective environmental policies and support broader efforts to protect the environment and public health, particularly in urban areas.
