ICIES News- At the 4th International Conference on Islamic Economics Studies (ICIES) 2024, researchers Sri Malika Sari and Mahardhika Cipta Raharja from UIN Prof. K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto, presented their study titled “A Critical Examination of the Influence of Gharar and Maysir on Economic Stability in the Context of Islamic Economics.”
This study examined the Islamic economic principles that prohibit excessive uncertainty (gharar) and gambling practices (maysir) and their impact on economic resilience, a key factor in maintaining a nation’s stability amid global economic changes. The research utilized a qualitative method with a literature review approach, gathering and analyzing data from various secondary sources, including relevant journals, books, and case studies.
The findings indicated that gharar, or uncertainty in transactions, can erode market confidence and lead to economic instability. Additionally, gambling, represented by maysir, diverts resources from productive sectors and causes an unfair redistribution of wealth, negatively affecting economic resilience.
The study concluded that applying Islamic economic principles that avoid gharar and maysir can significantly enhance economic stability and justice. This research contributes to Islamic economic literature by providing an empirical analysis of how these concepts influence economic resilience and offering practical solutions to mitigate the risks posed by gharar and maysir in economic policy.
The presentation was well-received by conference attendees, highlighting the vital role of Islamic economic principles in promoting sustainable economic stability. The insights from this research are expected to inform future economic policies aimed at fostering resilience and equity in the economy.
